Skin tightening without surgery
Regenerative techniques can improve the quality and firmness of the skin. They do not reposition tissue or remove skin; this boundary is made clear beforehand.
What does skin laxity mean?
From approximately the age of twenty-five, collagen production decreases every year. Elastin, the fiber that gives the skin its resilience, hardly recovers. In addition, the underlying fat and supporting tissue also change. The result is skin that feels thinner, has less bounce, and appears heavier.
Laxity is therefore not a single layer that comes loose, but an interplay of skin, fat, and supporting tissue. This explains why a treatment that only acts on the skin has a limited reach.
What is possible without surgery, and what is not?
Non-surgical techniques work on the quality of the tissue. They can make the skin firmer and more compact and improve its texture. What they cannot do is reposition tissue that has been displaced by gravity or remove excess skin.
Those with a distinct fold in the neck, or a jawline that has blurred due to sagging, will not achieve the result with injections or devices that a facelift or a neck lift provides. This is stated honestly during the consultation, even when it is not what you hope to hear.
The reverse is also true: surgery repositions tissue but does not improve skin quality. Both approaches complement each other and are not mutually exclusive.
Which treatments are used?
- Biostimulators encourage the body to produce its own collagen and work gradually over several months.
- RF microneedling combines microneedles with radiofrequency heat and therefore works deeper than microneedling alone.
- Microneedling improves the texture and compactness of the skin.
- Polynucleotides are used to improve skin quality and hydration.
- The regenerative facial treatment combines several of these techniques in a single trajectory.
- Biofiller uses your own blood components to address volume and skin quality simultaneously.
How is a plan established?
First, it is determined what proportion of the appearance is due to skin quality and what proportion is due to sagging or loss of volume. This distinction determines whether a non-surgical trajectory is meaningful, whether it is better used as preparation for or as a supplement to a procedure, or whether it offers no added value.
A trajectory typically runs over several months, with sessions at fixed intervals and an evaluation halfway through. Collagen buildup is a slow process; the effect of biostimulators can only be properly assessed after two to three months.
What can you realistically expect?
The expected effect is firmer-feeling and smoother skin, and a subtle improvement of the contour. It is a difference in quality, not in shape. Those who desire a clear change in facial contour are better served with a surgical correction.
The result varies from person to person and depends, among other things, on age, skin type, smoking, sun exposure, and general health. There is an obligation of means and not an obligation of result.
When is this not recommended?
- In the case of pronounced skin excess: surgery is the appropriate path there.
- In the case of an active skin infection or inflammation in the treatment area.
- In the case of certain autoimmune disorders, after consultation.
- During pregnancy and breastfeeding.
- In the case of certain coagulation disorders or use of blood thinners, after consultation.
Frequently asked questions
How long does the effect last?
That depends on the technique. Biostimulators typically work over a period of one to two years, after which the process continues again. Skin-improving treatments require maintenance, usually a few sessions per year.
Is there recovery time?
With injections, there is usually a few days of swelling or sensitivity. With RF microneedling, the skin is red for a few days. Neither requires a long-term interruption of your activities, but you will look visibly treated for a number of days.
Can I combine this with a procedure?
Yes. In many cases, skin quality is improved beforehand, and regenerative aftercare is used after the procedure to support recovery.
Am I too young or too old for this?
Age in itself is not a criterion. What matters is the condition of the tissue and what you want to achieve. With very young skin, there is often little to be gained; with severely sagging skin, surgery is usually the better choice.
What does a treatment course cost?
The cost depends on the chosen technique and the number of sessions. This is discussed during the consultation and confirmed in writing before anything is finalized.
