Labiaplasty (labia reduction)
A labiaplasty corrects enlarged or asymmetrical labia. Discover techniques, recovery, results, and when this procedure may be indicated.

What is a labiaplasty?
A labiaplasty is a surgical procedure in which the size or shape of the labia minora is adjusted.
In some women, the labia are significantly large, asymmetrical, or cause discomfort during daily activities. This can lead to irritation, friction during sports, or discomfort when wearing tight clothing.
In other cases, the concern is primarily aesthetic.
The goal of the procedure is to achieve a harmonious and natural shape of the vulva, while maintaining sensitivity and function.
INDICATIONS
When is a labiaplasty indicated?
procedure
How is a labiaplasty performed?
The procedure is usually performed under local anesthesia, possibly with light sedation. The technique is tailored to the anatomy, the symptoms, and the patient’s expectations.
Safety
The choice of technique is always based on the individual anatomy, the shape of the labia, and the patient’s expectations.
With the trim technique, excess tissue along the edge of the labia is removed. With the wedge resection, a triangular piece of tissue is removed, preserving the natural edge of the labia as much as possible.
If necessary, a limited correction of surrounding structures, such as the clitoral hood, can also be performed to achieve a harmonious result.
Results
The result of a labiaplasty is a more harmonious shape of the labia.
Many patients experience less irritation, more comfort during daily activities, and increased self-confidence.
The goal always remains a natural result with preservation of function and sensitivity.
Aftercare
During the first few days, swelling, sensitivity, and slight bruising may occur.
These symptoms usually gradually subside within one to two weeks.
Sports and sexual activity are temporarily discouraged for several weeks to allow for optimal healing.
Recovery
Recovery after a labiaplasty
During the first few days, the following may occur:
- swelling
- sensitivity in the surgical area
- slight bruising
These symptoms usually gradually subside within one to two weeks.
Sports and sexual activity are generally discouraged for several weeks.
Most patients can return home the same day.

scars
Scars after a labiaplasty
The scars are located in the natural folds of the vulva and are usually hardly noticeable after healing.

In a labiaplasty, incisions are placed so that they heal as discreetly as possible.
Due to the excellent blood supply in the intimate region, scars usually heal very well.
After full recovery, the scars are typically barely visible.
