This determines not only which technique will work, but also whether a technique is useful at all. <\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Expression lines<\/strong> are caused by repeated muscle movement: frown lines, crow&#8217;s feet, forehead lines. They are clearly visible during movement and barely or not at all visible at rest. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Static wrinkles<\/strong> are visible at rest. The skin has retained the fold because collagen and elastin have decreased. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Loss of volume<\/strong> creates shadows and grooves, for example in the cheeks or around the mouth, without the skin itself being folded.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Sagging<\/strong> shifts tissue downwards and makes folds deeper, for example at the jawline.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">These mechanisms occur together on the same face. An approach that attempts to solve everything with a single technique therefore rarely produces a natural result. <\/p>\n\n<h2 id=\"welke-behandeling-hoort-bij-welk-type\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Which treatment belongs to which type?<\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For expression lines, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.drcolle.be\/en\/dienst\/botulinum-toxin-for-dynamic-wrinkles\/\">botulinum toxin<\/a> is used. Muscle activity is temporarily reduced, making the fold less deep during movement. This is the only technique that acts on the underlying mechanism.  <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For static wrinkles, skin quality is addressed: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.drcolle.be\/en\/dienst\/microneedling-for-skin-rejuvenation\/\">microneedling<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.drcolle.be\/en\/dienst\/rf-microneedling-skin-tightening-without-surgery\/\">RF microneedling<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.drcolle.be\/en\/dienst\/polynucleotides-for-skin-quality\/\">polynucleotides<\/a>, or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.drcolle.be\/en\/dienst\/mesotherapy-and-skin-boosters\/\">skin boosters<\/a>, depending on the depth and the area.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For loss of volume, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.drcolle.be\/en\/dienst\/hyaluronic-acid-fillers\/\">hyaluronic acid<\/a> is used, along with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.drcolle.be\/en\/dienst\/biostimulators-for-natural-collagen-production\/\">biostimulators<\/a> that encourage the body to produce its own collagen, or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.drcolle.be\/en\/dienst\/biofiller-autologous-gel-from-your-own-blood\/\">biofillers<\/a> based on your own blood components.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In cases of pronounced sagging, a surgical correction such as a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.drcolle.be\/en\/dienst\/facelift\/\">facelift<\/a> is the recommended path. In such cases, injections can make the appearance heavier rather than younger. <\/p>\n\n<h2 id=\"waarom-het-onderscheid-belangrijk-is\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Why the distinction is important<\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Most unsatisfactory results seen in practice do not stem from a poorly performed treatment, but from an incorrect indication: filling where sagging is the issue, or immobilizing the muscle where the skin is the problem. The result is a face that looks fuller or smoother, but not fresher. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For this reason, the mechanism is identified first during the consultation, and only then the technique. If the conclusion is that a treatment will yield little result, this will be stated. <\/p>\n\n<h2 id=\"hoe-verloopt-een-behandeling\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">How does a treatment proceed?<\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A treatment with botulinum toxin is brief. The effect builds up over several days and can usually be fully assessed after two weeks; a follow-up appointment takes place at that time. The effect lasts an average of three to four months.  <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">With fillers and biostimulators, there is usually swelling or sensitivity for a few days. With biostimulators, the effect builds up slowly over two to three months, as the body must produce its own collagen. <\/p>\n\n<h2 id=\"wat-mag-u-realistisch-verwachten\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">What can you realistically expect?<\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The goal is a calmer and fresh-looking face in which your own expression remains recognizable. A face without any lines is not the goal: it reads as treated rather than young. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Wrinkles can be softened, not erased. Deep static folds usually remain visible, even after a successful treatment. Results vary from person to person; there is an obligation of means, not an obligation of result.  <\/p>\n\n<h2 id=\"wanneer-is-dit-niet-aangewezen\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">When is this not recommended?<\/h2>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>During pregnancy and breastfeeding.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In certain neuromuscular disorders, for botulinum toxin.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In case of an active infection or inflammation in the treatment area.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In case of a known hypersensitivity to one of the products used.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In the case of certain coagulation disorders or use of blood thinners, after consultation.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>When expectations do not match what the technique can offer.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<h2 id=\"veelgestelde-vragen\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Frequently asked questions<\/h2>\n\n<h3 id=\"ziet-men-dat-ik-iets-heb-laten-doen\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Will people notice that I have had something done?<\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That depends on the dosage and the indication. Dosing is deliberately conservative, with a follow-up after two weeks where adjustments can be made if necessary. Adjustments are always possible; reversing them is not.  <\/p>\n\n<h3 id=\"is-botulinetoxine-gevaarlijk\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Is botulinum toxin dangerous?<\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is a medication that has been used in medicine for decades, including outside of aesthetics. With correct dosage and administration by a physician, the profile is well-known. Potential side effects are discussed in advance and recorded in writing.  <\/p>\n\n<h3 id=\"wat-gebeurt-er-als-ik-stop\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">What happens if I stop?<\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The situation gradually returns to its natural course. There is no question of accelerated aging after stopping. <\/p>\n\n<h3 id=\"kan-een-filler-weer-verwijderd-worden\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Can a filler be removed?<\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Hyaluronic acid can be dissolved with an enzyme. Biostimulators and biofillers are broken down by the body and are not dissolvable; therefore, they are handled more cautiously. <\/p>\n\n<h3 id=\"geldt-er-een-bedenktijd\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Is there a reflection period?<\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For purely aesthetic procedures, a legal reflection period of fifteen days applies between the agreement and the treatment.
