However, not every shadow under the eye is the same, and the appropriate treatment follows from that distinction. <\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Eye bags<\/strong> are a volume issue: the fat pad under the eye protrudes because the supporting tissue has weakened.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Dark circles caused by transparency<\/strong> occur when the skin becomes thin, making the underlying blood vessels and muscle visible.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Dark circles caused by pigment<\/strong> are a discoloration of the skin itself, often hereditary or exacerbated by sun exposure.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>The tear trough<\/strong> is a groove between the eyelid and the cheek that casts a shadow, even when the skin is well-rested.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Fluid retention<\/strong> varies with the time of day and sleep patterns and is not a structural issue.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A treatment that addresses the wrong mechanism will not provide improvement and may even make the appearance more unsettled. Therefore, this always begins with an assessment rather than a selection from a menu of options. <\/p>\n\n<h2 id=\"welke-behandelingen-komen-in-aanmerking\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Which treatments are suitable?<\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Where skin quality is the issue, a regenerative approach is taken. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.drcolle.be\/en\/dienst\/prp-for-the-eye-contour-and-tear-trough\/\">PRP for the eye contour<\/a> uses your own platelet-rich plasma to support the thin skin around the eye. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.drcolle.be\/en\/dienst\/polynucleotides-for-skin-quality\/\">Polynucleotides<\/a> are used specifically in this area to improve skin hydration and firmness.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Where the tear trough causes a shadow, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.drcolle.be\/en\/dienst\/hyaluronic-acid-fillers\/\">hyaluronic acid<\/a> can be used very carefully. This is one of the most technical areas of the face: material that is injected too much or too superficially causes swelling or a blue tint. Caution is the rule here.  <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Where the fat pad itself protrudes, an injection is not the solution; instead, a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.drcolle.be\/en\/dienst\/eyelid-surgery\/\">blepharoplasty<\/a> is required. A lower eyelid correction repositions or removes the protruding fat, thereby correcting the cause rather than the symptom. <\/p>\n\n<h2 id=\"hoe-wordt-beslist-wat-u-nodig-hebt\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">How is it decided what you need?<\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">During the consultation, the position of the lower eyelid, skin firmness, the position of the fat pad, and the cheek transition are examined. We also inquire whether the appearance fluctuates with sleep, salt intake, or allergies, as this often indicates fluid retention rather than a structural problem. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It frequently happens that the advice is to do nothing, or to start with sleep, sun protection, and skincare before considering a treatment. That advice is then given accordingly. <\/p>\n\n<h2 id=\"wat-mag-u-realistisch-verwachten\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">What can you realistically expect?<\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The eye contour responds slowly and subtly. Regenerative treatments generally improve skin texture and firmness; they do not make a fat pad disappear and do not remove hereditary pigment. With thin skin and visible vessels, some of the shadow will remain, regardless of how well the skin is treated.  <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The goal is a calmer and less tired-looking eye area, not complete smoothing. What is achievable in your situation will be discussed beforehand. There is an obligation of means, not an obligation of result.  <\/p>\n\n<h2 id=\"wanneer-is-dit-niet-aangewezen\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">When is this not recommended?<\/h2>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>In the case of an active eye infection or inflammation of the eyelid.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In the case of significant weakening of the lower eyelid, where an injection could worsen the appearance.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In the case of certain coagulation disorders or the use of blood thinners, following consultation.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>During pregnancy and breastfeeding.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In the case of unrealistic expectations regarding what is possible in this area.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<h2 id=\"veelgestelde-vragen\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Frequently asked questions<\/h2>\n\n<h3 id=\"hoe-lang-zijn-blauwe-plekken-zichtbaar\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">How long do bruises remain visible?<\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The skin around the eye has a rich blood supply, so bruising after an injection is not uncommon. Expect it to last from a few days to a week. Please take this into account when planning appointments or travel.  <\/p>\n\n<h3 id=\"kan-ik-meteen-weer-make-up-dragen\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Can I wear makeup again immediately?<\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is generally recommended not to apply makeup to the treated area for the first twenty-four hours to minimize the risk of irritation or infection.<\/p>\n\n<h3 id=\"helpt-dit-tegen-hangende-bovenoogleden\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Does this help with drooping upper eyelids?<\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">No. Excess skin on the upper eyelid is a surgical issue. Blepharoplasty exists for this purpose; injections do not change that.  <\/p>\n\n<h3 id=\"hoeveel-sessies-zijn-er-nodig\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">How many sessions are needed?<\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For PRP and polynucleotides, treatment usually starts with three sessions at four- to six-week intervals, followed by maintenance. For a tear trough filler, it involves a single treatment, with a follow-up appointment. <\/p>\n\n<h3 id=\"is-dit-omkeerbaar\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Is this reversible?<\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Hyaluronic acid can be dissolved with an enzyme if necessary.
