What is a hyaluronic acid filler?<\/h2>\n\n

Hyaluronic acid is a sugar molecule naturally present in the skin and connective tissue. Its primary property is the ability to bind water, thereby providing volume and firmness. As we age, its quantity gradually decreases. <\/p>\n\n

In a filler, hyaluronic acid is cross-linked: the molecules are interconnected into a gel, which prevents the product from being broken down immediately. Depending on the degree of cross-linking, the gel is either firm and structural or soft and supple, tailored to the specific area. <\/p>\n\n

How does it work?<\/h2>\n\n

The gel is placed in a specific tissue layer where it occupies space. Depending on the depth, it provides either support to deeper structures or a subtle correction just beneath the skin. Because hyaluronic acid binds water, a slight additional gain in volume occurs afterwards. <\/p>\n\n

The result is largely visible immediately. This distinguishes this treatment from biostimulators and regenerative treatments, where the effect builds up over weeks or months. The duration of effect is typically six to eighteen months. <\/p>\n\n

Who is this treatment suitable for?<\/h2>\n\n

The most commonly treated areas are the midface and cheekbones, the jawline and chin, the lips, and the tear trough. Fillers are also indicated for asymmetry or for a profile requiring discrete correction, such as a receding chin that makes the jawline less defined. <\/p>\n\n

During the consultation, the face is assessed as a whole. Volume loss in one area often causes concerns in another; therefore, the treatment plan addresses the cause rather than the visible fold alone. <\/p>\n\n

What happens during a session?<\/h2>\n\n

An initial consultation precedes the treatment, during which anatomy, medical history, medication, and expectations are discussed. The treatment and risks are explained in writing, and a reflection period is provided. <\/p>\n\n

On the day of the procedure, the skin is disinfected and the injection points are marked. The procedure is performed using a needle or a blunt cannula; in certain areas, a cannula reduces the risk of bruising and vascular injury. Most fillers contain a local anesthetic. <\/p>\n\n

A session typically lasts twenty to forty minutes. Recovery time is limited, although it is recommended not to schedule important appointments in the first few days following a lip treatment. <\/p>\n\n

Number of sessions and results<\/h2>\n\n

Often, one session per area is sufficient. For more extensive corrections, the work is intentionally carried out in several steps, with a few weeks in between, to avoid overcorrection. <\/p>\n\n

The final result can be assessed once the swelling has completely subsided, usually after two weeks. The practitioner commits to an obligation of means, not an obligation of result. <\/p>\n\n
